The West Bengal Zoo Authority was constituted as a registered society (vide Gazette notification no. 3382-For; Kolkata, 27th August, 2009) as a government controlled registered society under the Department of Forests, Govt. of West Bengal. The Authority became functional during 2012-13 only. The West Bengal Zoo Authority is governed by a 12 member body headed by the Chief Secretary, Govt. of West Bengal as Chairman and Additional Principal Chief Secretary, Department of Forests, Govt. of West Bengal as the Vice-Chairman.
