ESIC Recruitment 2025 : Walk-in for Engagement of Teaching Faculty in Kolkata : Overview
The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, is inviting applications for the immediate engagement of Teaching Faculty on a contractual basis. The positions available are Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and Assistant Professor (Statistician) at the ESI-PGIMSR & ESIC Medical College in Joka, Kolkata – 700104. The engagement will initially be for three years, extendable up to two more years based on satisfactory performance, with a maximum tenure of five years or until the incumbent reaches 70 years of age, or a regular faculty joins, whichever is earlier.2

- Issuing Authority: Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India.

- Contract Duration: Initial period of 3 years, extendable yearly up to 2 additional years. Maximum tenure is 5 years or until 70 years of age, or joining of regular faculty, whichever is earlier.
- PWD Vacancies: 4% of total vacancies are reserved for the PWD category in identified posts.
- Nature of Post: Purely contractual and terminable by either side with one month’s notice. Does not confer the right of confirmation or continuation.
- Remuneration:
- Professor: Rs. 2,55,960/-
- Associate Professor: Rs. 1,70,208/-
- Assistant Professor: Rs. 1,46,232/-
- Assistant Professor Cum Statistician: Rs. 1,25,245/-
- In addition to the consolidated remuneration, teaching faculty will receive transport allowance with DA, which will be revised periodically.
- No other allowances will be paid.
- No private practice is allowed during the tenure of service in ESIC.

- Not exceeding 69 years on the date of Document Verification & Interview.
Educational & Experience Requirements
1. Professor
- Academic Qualifications: MD/MS/DNB in the concerned subject.
- Teaching and Research Experience:
- 8 years post-PG experience.
- 3 years as Associate Professor in a permitted/recognized medical college/institution.
- At least 4 Research publications (at least 2 as Associate Professor) in indexed journals (Medline, PubMed Central, Science Citation Index, Science Citation Index Expanded, Embase, Scopus, DoAJ). The author should be among the first three or corresponding author.
- Completed the basic course in Medical Education Technology from NMC designated institutions.
- Completed the Basic course in Biomedical Research from NMC designated institutions.
2. Associate Professor
- Academic Qualifications: MD/MS/DNB in the concerned subject.
- Teaching and Research Experience:
- 5 years post-PG experience.
- 4 years as Assistant Professor in a permitted/recognized medical college/institution.
- Two Research Publications in indexed journals (Medline, PubMed Central, Science Citation Index, Science Citation Index Expanded, Embase, Scopus, DoAJ). The author should be among the first three or corresponding author.
- Completed the ‘Basic Course in Medical Education Technology’ from NMC designated institutions.
- Completed the ‘Basic Course in Biomedical Research’ from NMC designated institutions.
3. Assistant Professor
- Academic Qualifications: MD/MS/DNB in the concerned subject.
- Teaching and Research Experience:
- Essential: One year as Senior Resident in the concerned subject in a recognized/permitted medical college after acquiring MD/MS Degree.
- Desirable: Three years as Senior Resident/Tutor/Demonstrator/Registrar/Assistant Professor/Lecturer in the concerned subject in a recognized/permitted medical college after acquiring MD/MS Degree.
4. Assistant Professor (Statistician)
- MSc (Health Statistics/Medical Statistics/Bio Statistics/Statistics) with PhD from a recognized University.
Equivalence of DNB with MD/MS:
- DNB in broad specialty and super specialty from a medical institution with attached hospital or a hospital with 500+ beds is equivalent to MD/MS/DM/MCh. In other cases, one additional year of senior residency in a medical college is required for teaching purposes.
Non-Medical Qualifications for Faculty (Assistant Professor and beyond) in Specific Specialties:
- Anatomy: MSc (Medical Anatomy) with PhD Medical Anatomy.
- Biochemistry: MSc (Medical Biochemistry) with PhD in Medical Biochemistry.
- Physiology: MSc (Medical Physiology) with PhD in Medical Physiology.
General Notes on Eligibility:
- Academic qualification, teaching, and research experience will be as per the latest NMC guidelines.
- Retired candidates from Central/State Govt./PSUs from equivalent posts are eligible.
- Persons working in recognized/approved Private Medical Institutions fulfilling eligibility criteria may also apply.

- Print one set of the prescribed application form on A4 size paper.
- Attach a recent passport-size photograph, self-attested across the lower part (4 cm x 3 cm).
- Submit one set of self-attested copies of the following certificates and testimonials:
- Proof of age (Date of Birth)
- Category (SC & ST, OBC, EWS) in updated Government of India Format
- Educational Qualifications (Matriculation, Higher Secondary, Graduate, Post Graduate, & any other)
- Registration certificate issued by State Medical Council/MCI
- MCI recognized teaching experience issued by the Head of the Institute or Head of the Department
- Research Publications in Indexed Journals
- Pension Payment Order (PPO) for retired government employees
- NOC for in-service candidates from the employer
- Service bond release certificate, if applicable
- No objection certificate from the present employer, in case of a Government employee
- Bring original documents for verification on the interview date.
Application Fee
- NIL: SC/ST/Regular ESIC Candidates/Female Candidates & Ex-Servicemen.
- Rs. 500/-: All other categories.
- Mode of Payment: Demand Draft of Rs. 500/- in favor of “ESI Fund Account No. I,” drawn after the advertisement issue date, on any scheduled bank payable at ‘Kolkata’.
- Important Notes on Fee:
- Fee once paid will not be refunded.
- Demand Drafts from any Nationalized/private Bank are accepted. Other modes of payment are not accepted.
- The Demand Draft must be issued after the date of issue of this advertisement.
- Separate Demand Drafts are required if applying for more than one post.
Selection Process
- Selection will be based on the candidate’s performance in the interview before the Selection Board.
- Results will be published on the website: www.esic.gov.in.
- Candidates eligible for a higher post (Professor/Associate Professor) may be interviewed for a lower post (Associate/Assistant Professor). If selected, they may be considered for suitable upgradation of the lower post based on eligibility and the selection board’s recommendation.
