The Ministry of Power, Government of India has announced vacancies for the positions of Chairperson and Member in the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Positions Available
- Chairperson: One post
- Member: Two posts (one for J&K and one for Ladakh)
Term of Appointment
- Chairperson: Upto the age of 65 years.
- Member: Upto the age of 62 years.
- The term for both positions is five years from the date of joining or until attaining the specified age, whichever is earlier.
Emoluments and Benefits
- Chairperson: Equivalent to a Secretary to the Government of India, entitled to perks and allowances as admissible to an Additional Secretary or the pay that an officer of the same rank as at his retirement would draw, whichever is lower.
- Member: Equivalent to a Joint Secretary to the Government of India, entitled to perks and allowances as admissible to a Joint Secretary or the pay that an officer of the same rank as at his retirement would draw, whichever is lower.

- The headquarters of JERC for UTs of J&K and Ladakh is located in Jammu.

General
- Must be a person of ability, integrity, and standing.
- Possess adequate knowledge and experience in fields such as engineering, finance, commerce, economics, law, or management.
Chairperson Specific
- A sitting or retired Judge of the Supreme Court or a High Court, or a person who has been or is qualified to be appointed as a Judge of the High Court.
- Possessing substantial experience in the practice of law, who has the requisite qualifications to have been appointed as a Judge of the High Court or a District Judge.
Member Specific
- Must not hold any other office of profit.
- Must not have any financial or other interest that is likely to affect prejudicially his/her functions as a Member of the JERC.
- Persons already serving as Member of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) or State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs) are also eligible to apply.

Application Process
- Applications must be submitted in the prescribed proforma, annexed with the circular as below (Correct the Name of Post as per your requirement and the Date of Vacancy as 11 June 2025).
- Applicants must provide two recent passport-size photographs and relevant qualifying experience and excellence certificates.
- The application form requires details such as name, post applied for, date of birth, name of applicant/nominee, father’s name, present and permanent address, contact numbers, email ID, educational qualifications, and details of employment/experience.

Selection Process
- A Search-cum-Selection Committee will recommend suitable candidates.
- The selection process will adhere to the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003, and relevant guidelines issued by the Government of India.
- Shortlisted candidates may be called for an interview.
