    Examination Overview

    Purpose of the Examination

The Jharkhand Eligibility Test (JET) 2024 is a state-level qualifying examination conducted by the JPSC. It serves two primary functions:

    1. To determine the eligibility for appointment to the post of Assistant Professor in the universities and colleges of Jharkhand.
    2. To establish the eligibility for admission into Ph.D. programs in the state.

The JET Certificate, once awarded, will have lifetime validity for both eligibility purposes.

    Total Number of Qualified Candidates

It is essential to understand that JET is an eligibility test and not a direct recruitment drive with a fixed number of vacancies. Instead of specifying a total number of posts, the selection process is determined by a national standard:

    • Total Qualified Candidates: The top 6% of the candidates who appear in both papers and secure the minimum aggregate marks will be declared qualified for eligibility.
    • Distribution: These qualified slots will be allocated category-wise according to the reservation policy of the Government of Jharkhand.

    Eligibility Criteria and Exam Pattern

    Minimum Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from a UGC-recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks (without rounding off) for Unreserved/EWS categories, and at least 50% marks for BC-I/BC-II/SC/ST/PwBD candidates who are permanent residents of Jharkhand. Candidates in the final year of their Master’s program may also apply provisionally.

    Examination Structure

The examination will be conducted in a single session in Offline OMR (pen and paper) mode and will consist of two papers with objective-type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs):

    PaperMarksNumber of QuestionsDuration
Paper I (General Paper)100503 Hours (Combined)
Paper II (Subject Specific)2001003 Hours (Combined)

Important: There is no break between the two papers, and there will be no negative marking.

    Application Fee

The application fee varies by category and must be paid online:

    CategoryApplication Fee
    Unreserved (UR)₹575/-
    BC-I / BC-II / EWS₹300/-
    SC / ST / PwBD (of Jharkhand)₹150/-

The notice extending the application window for the Jharkhand Eligibility Test 2024 (Advt. No. 08/2025) is available for download on the official JPSC website.
