    An advertisement from the MACS-Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) in Pune, a government-funded autonomous body, has announced an opening for the position of Director. The incumbent will be responsible for leading the institute’s research and development initiatives, with a strong focus on scientific advancements for the benefit of humanity and the nation.

    The MACS-Agharkar Research Institute, under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, is dedicated to promoting high-standard research. The institute’s current research activities are focused on six key thematic areas: Biodiversity & Palaeobiology, Bioenergy, Bioprospecting, Developmental Biology, Genetics & Plant Breeding, and Nanobioscience.

    Appointment Details

    The Director will be appointed by the Governing Body of ARI, with the approval of the Central Government’s Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The selection process involves a Search-cum-Selection Committee that will review recommendations and nominations from eminent individuals and institutions, including Fellows of Academies, Directors of National Laboratories, and Vice-Chancellors of Universities.

    Eligibility and Term

    The selected candidate will be appointed for a term of three to five years, or until they reach the age of superannuation (60 years), whichever is earlier. The position is a direct recruitment or deputation role. The pay scale is set at Level 15 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix of the Government of India.

    The advertisement specifies that applicants must not be over 56 years of age as of July 1, 2025.

    Application Process

    Interested and eligible candidates are required to submit their applications on plain paper in the prescribed format. Applications must be sent by post to the Chairman, Institute Council, c/o MACS-Agharkar Research Institute, Gopal Ganesh Agarkar Road, Pune 411 004, within 30 days from the publication date of the advertisement.

    A separate deadline of 45 days is given for candidates from the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh (UT), Lahaul and Spiti District, and Pangi Sub Division of Chamba District, Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Island, and Lakshadweep.
