Patna, Bihar – The Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) has issued an official advertisement (No. 06/25) for a competitive examination to recruit eligible Indian citizens for the posts of Office Attendant (Karyalaya Parichari) / Special Attendant (Parichari Vishesh). The BSSC, located at Veterinary College, Patna-14, received a request for the recruitment of these positions from various departments and offices under the General Administration Department, Bihar.
The application process is entirely online. The online application portal opened on August 25, 2025, and will close on September 26, October 16, 2025.1
Vacancy Details and Pay Scale
The total number of vacancies advertised is 3,727. This includes 1,216 posts reserved for women, as per the 35% horizontal reservation policy. The pay scale for the post is Level-1.
The vacancies are distributed across various departments. Here’s a brief breakdown of the total positions available in some key departments:
- Directorate, Planning and Training (Training Wing), Labour Resources Department, Bihar, Patna: 203 posts.
- Labour Resources Department (Labour Wing), (Regional Office), Bihar, Patna: 52 posts.
- Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department, Bihar, Patna: 79 posts.
- Road Construction Department, Bihar, Patna: 26 posts.
- General Administration Department, Bihar, Patna: 21 posts.
- Building Construction Department, Bihar, Patna: 500 posts.
- Water Resources Department, Bihar, Patna: 62 posts.
- Rural Works Department, Bihar, Patna: 42 posts.
- Collectorate, Patna: 221 posts.
- Collectorate, Begusarai: 108 posts.
Reservations and Eligibility
The reservation benefits are applicable only to candidates who are original residents of Bihar. Candidates from outside Bihar will be considered under the general category. Specific horizontal reservations are available for women, benchmark disabled persons, and the grandchildren of freedom fighters.
To be eligible, a candidate must have passed the Tenth/Matriculation or an equivalent examination from a recognized board or institution by the application deadline.2
Age Limits
The minimum age for all categories is 18 years, calculated as of August 1, 2025. The maximum age limits are as follows:
- Unreserved (Male): 37 years
- Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class (Male and Female): 40 years
- Unreserved (Female): 40 years
- Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Male and Female): 42 years
- All Categories of Disabled Candidates: A relaxation of 10 years in addition to their respective category’s maximum age limit.
Examination Pattern and Syllabus
The selection process will be a competitive examination. If more than 40,000 applications are received, a preliminary examination will be conducted. The preliminary exam will consist of a single paper on General Knowledge, with questions from three subjects:
- General Arithmetic: 30 marks
- General Knowledge: 40 marks
- General Hindi: 30 marks
The preliminary examination will be objective and multiple-choice, with a total of 100 questions. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks, while 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. The duration of the exam will be 2 hours. The medium of the exam will be Hindi and English, but General Hindi questions will only be in Hindi (Devanagari script). In case of any discrepancy between the Hindi and English versions of the questions, the English version will be considered final.
The syllabus for the exam covers a wide range of topics, including arithmetic, various subjects under general knowledge such as history, geography, and science, and Hindi grammar and literature.
Qualifying Marks
To be eligible for further selection, candidates must achieve the following minimum qualifying marks in both the preliminary and main examinations:
- Unreserved: 40%
- Backward Class: 36.5%
- Extremely Backward Class: 34%
- Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe: 32%
- Women (all categories): 32%
- Disabled (all categories): 32%
Application and Fee
The examination fee can be paid online via credit card, debit card, UPI, or net banking from August 25, 2025, to September 24, 2025. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
The fee structure is as follows:
- General/Backward Class/Extremely Backward Class (Male): ₹540
- Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (Permanent residents of Bihar): ₹135
- Disabled (all categories): ₹135
- Women (Permanent residents of Bihar): ₹135
- All candidates from outside Bihar (Male/Female): ₹540

Additional Note
The BSSC has cautioned applicants to ensure all information, including their reservation category, is accurately entered during the online application.
