    NASA Policy Shift

NASA’s new acting chief, Sean Duffy, has announced a significant policy pivot, shifting the agency’s primary focus away from Earth-focused climate research to deep space exploration. Duffy stated that NASA’s core mission is to explore space, and as a result, many of the agency’s long-standing climate science and Earth observation programs will be scaled back or discontinued. The agency will now concentrate its resources on ambitious missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond, including developing nuclear-powered space infrastructure and accelerating crewed missions to Mars. This move has sparked controversy among scientists and environmentalists, who argue that it undermines decades of crucial climate research and may be in conflict with NASA’s foundational charter, which also mandates the study of Earth’s atmosphere.

    U.S. East Coast Hurricane

Hurricane Erin has been battering the U.S. East Coast, leading to a state of emergency in New Jersey. The storm, which at one point reached Category 5 status before weakening, has caused significant coastal flooding, dangerous rip currents, and high surf from the Carolinas up to New England. While the hurricane is now moving away from the U.S., it has prompted officials in states like New Jersey to issue a state of emergency and advise residents and visitors to stay out of the ocean. The storm’s outer bands have caused localized flooding, and officials have noted its unusually large size and rapid intensification as notable characteristics, which some experts have linked to warmer sea surface temperatures.

Controversial White House Social Media Account

The White House, under President Donald Trump’s administration, has launched an official account on TikTok. This move is considered controversial because of ongoing security debates surrounding the app, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. Lawmakers and intelligence officials have previously expressed concerns that the company could be compelled to share American user data with the Chinese government. The launch of the official account on a platform that had been facing a potential U.S. ban is seen by many as a signal that the ban is unlikely to be enforced. The White House press secretary stated that the administration is committed to using as many platforms as possible to communicate with the American people.

India’s Key Bill in the Lok Sabha

In India, Home Minister Amit Shah introduced three bills in the Lok Sabha, with a key one being the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025. The primary purpose of this bill is to allow for the removal of a Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or minister if they are arrested or detained for serious criminal charges for 30 consecutive days. The bill, which has been referred to a Joint Committee, aims to elevate the standards of morality and integrity in politics and prevent individuals from running the government while in jail. The Opposition, however, has criticized the bills as unconstitutional and an attempt to destabilize democratically elected governments.

    Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue

The 6th meeting of the foreign ministers’ dialogue was held in Kabul and involved China, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. The three countries agreed to deepen their political, economic, and security cooperation. Key outcomes of the meeting included a commitment to strengthen joint efforts against terrorism and a reaffirmation of their collaboration on trade, transit, and regional development. A significant agreement was also made to extend the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Kabul. The meeting was attended by the foreign ministers of all three nations and marked a step toward strengthening trilateral relations.
