NESAC Recruitment 2025: Overview
The North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India, is conducting walk-in-interviews for temporary project-based positions. NESAC assists in the development process of the North Eastern Region using space science and technology, undertaking projects in remote sensing, GIS, satellite communication, and space-atmospheric science research. Their services support natural resource management, infrastructure, town planning, health, education, disaster management, and earth observation applications missions.
NESAC Recruitment 2025: Key Details
- Organization: North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC)
- Location: Umiam – 793103, Meghalaya (85 kms from Guwahati Railway Station and 18 kms from Shillong). Selected candidates may also be posted at Cherrapunjee, Meghalaya, or deputed anywhere in India at the discretion of the Director, NESAC.

- Positions: Research Scientist, Research Associate-I, and Junior Research Fellow.
- Nature of Employment: Temporary project-based.
- Tenure:
- Research Scientist/Research Associate-I: Purely temporary for one year, extendable up to a maximum of three years in total or co-terminus with the project, based on performance in periodical reviews. No provision for regularization.
- Junior Research Fellow: Purely temporary and co-terminus with the project, with no provision for regularization. Initially for one year or project duration, whichever is earlier, and is extendable for further periods based on assessment of their work and requirement of project, up to a maximum of five years or project duration, whichever is earlier.
- Emoluments:
- Research Scientist: ₹56,100/- per month, plus applicable DA, HRA, and medical benefits for self only as per rules.
- Research Associate-I: ₹58,000/- per month, plus applicable HRA and medical benefits for self only as per rules.
- Junior Research Fellow: ₹37,000/- per month fellowship, plus applicable HRA (at posting location or sanctioned under project, whichever is less) and medical benefits for self only as per extant rules.
- Leave: Junior Research Fellows are eligible only for Casual Leave while Research Associates and Research Scientists are eligible for leave as per rules of the Institution. Maternity leave as per Govt. of India instructions would be available to all female RSs/RAs/JRFs. Apart from this, the candidates selected will not be entitled to any benefits or concessions admissible to regular employees.
Eligibility Criteria
General Educational Qualifications:
- M.E./M.Tech. Degree: Minimum 60% aggregate (average of all semesters) or CGPA/CPI grading of 6.5 on a 10-point scale or equivalent from a recognized university.
- B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc. Degree: Minimum 65% aggregate (average of all semesters) or CGPA/CPI grading of 6.84 on a 10-point scale or equivalent from a recognized university.
- Rounding-off of marks/CGPA grading is not allowed.
- All degrees must be recognized by AICTE/UGC or any other authorized Government of India organization.
- The prescribed experience should be acquired after obtaining the essential qualification.

- RESEARCH SCIENTIST
- RS01 (1 Position):
- Essential Qualification: First Class M.E./M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering/Information Technology or equivalent AND First Class B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering/Information Technology or equivalent, with minimum one year research/work experience in the above field.
- Desired Experience: Working experience in development of app, web portal, implementing AI/ML/DL based applications, IoT based applications, dashboard applications with data analytics tools. Good grasp of programming and data analytic tools such as C++, Java, Python, R, Hadoop etc.
- RS02 (1 Position):
- Essential Qualification: First Class M.E./M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering/Information Technology or equivalent AND First Class B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering/Information Technology or equivalent, with minimum one year research/work experience in the above field.
- Desired Experience: Working experience in Geoweb Services/Spatial Decision Support System/Spatial Data Infrastructure/Location Based Services. Working experience in handling remote sensing data and GIS Software.
- RS03 (1 Position):
- Essential Qualification: First Class M.E./M.Tech in Civil Engineering/Agricultural Engineering/Remote Sensing & GIS/Water Resources Engineering with specialization/dissertation in water resources AND First Class B.E./B.Tech. in Civil/Agricultural Engineering, with minimum one year working experience in the relevant field.
- Desired Experience: Experience in Hydrological and Hydraulic Modeling using Remote Sensing & GIS inputs, etc. using SAR data.
- RS04 (1 Position):
- Essential Qualification: First Class M.E./M.Tech in Civil Engineering/Agricultural Engineering/Remote Sensing & GIS/Water Resources Engineering with specialization/project in water resources AND First Class B.E./B.Tech. in Civil/Agricultural Engineering, with minimum one year working experience in the relevant field.
- Desired Experience: Experience in Hydrological and Hydraulic Modeling using Remote Sensing & GIS inputs, etc.
- RS05 (1 Position):
- Essential Qualification: First Class M.Tech/M.S in Electronics and Communication Engg/Mechanical Engg/Electrical & Electronics Engg/Computer Science & Engg/Space Science & Engg or equivalent subjects, with minimum one year work experience in relevant field.
- Desired Experience: Experience in radar systems, digital signal processing, programming knowledge in MATLAB, FORTRAN and conversant with LINUX operating system.
- RS06 (1 Position):
- Essential Qualification: First Class M.Sc / M.Tech in Disaster Management or equivalent, with minimum one year research/work experience in the field of Disaster Management Support (DMS).
- Desired Experience: Working experience in disaster related studies, preparation of Disaster Management Plans. Working Knowledge in remote sensing data handling, GIS software, Google Earth Engine, Programming knowledge in PYTHON. Basic knowledge of AI/ML. Ph.D in relevant field.

- RESEARCH ASSOCIATE – I
- RA-I (1 Position):
- Essential Qualification: Ph.D or equivalent degree in Atmospheric Science/Physics (having thesis in topics related to Atmospheric Science) / Earth System Science (having thesis in topics related to Atmospheric science) or in similar subject with thesis in topics related to Atmospheric Science. OR M.Tech / ME in Atmospheric Sciences/Earth System Science/Applied Physics or similar subject with three years of research experience.
- Mandatory: At least 1 research paper in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) Journal.
- Desired Experience: Experience in WRF modeling, weather forecast validation, LINUX and Python programming, etc.
- RA-I (1 Position):
- JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW
- General for JRF positions (JRF01, JRF02, JRF03 & JRF04): Applicants must qualify one of the following tests in the relevant discipline and furnish the year of acquiring qualification along with the score card at the time of interview:
- CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test including NET-Lectureship
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by MHRD
- Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) conducted by MHRD
- Biotechnology Eligibility Test & Test conducted in Bio-informatics by Bio-informatics National Consortium
- Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST), Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology & Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS) conducted by Department of Atomic Energy.
- All India Competitive Examination (AICE) conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
- State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) conducted on behalf of the UGC by the National Test Agency.
- JRF01 (1 Position):
- Essential Qualification: First Class M.Sc in Agriculture/Horticulture/Sericulture/Forestry/Botany/Life Science/Environmental Sciences with Bachelor of Science as pre-qualification and NET/GATE or equivalent. OR First Class M.Sc./M.Tech in Agriculture/Agricultural Engineering/Remote Sensing / Remote Sensing and GIS/Geography /Geoinformatics / Spatial Information Science / Computer Science / Information Technology with NET/GATE or equivalent.
- Desired Experience: Working experience in application of RS and GIS in agriculture and allied areas.
- JRF02 (2 Positions):
- Essential Qualification: First Class B.E /B.Tech in Aerospace /Avionics/ Mechanical /Computer Science /Electronics & Communications Engineering with NET/GATE or equivalent.
- Desired Experience: Experience in UAV system design and development, integration and testing, operation & maintenance.
- JRF03 (1 Position):
- Essential Qualification: First Class M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering/IT/Geoinformatics or equivalent subject, with NET/GATE or equivalent. OR First Class B.Tech/M.Sc in CSE/IT/Physics / Earth System Science or equivalent subjects with NET/GATE or equivalent.

- Essential Qualification: First Class M.Tech in Atmospheric Sciences, Physics/Applied Physics/Earth System Science or equivalent subject, with NET/GATE or equivalent. OR First Class B.Tech/ M.Sc in Atmospheric Sciences/Physics/Applied Physics/Earth System Science or equivalent subjects with NET/GATE or equivalent.
- Desired Experience: Experience in WRF modeling, weather forecast validation, LINUX, python, etc.
- General for JRF positions (JRF01, JRF02, JRF03 & JRF04): Applicants must qualify one of the following tests in the relevant discipline and furnish the year of acquiring qualification along with the score card at the time of interview:
Age Limit (as on date of Interview):
- Research Scientist (M.Sc based): Maximum 28 years.
- Research Scientist (M.Tech based): Maximum 30 years.
- Research Associate-I: Maximum 35 years.
- Junior Research Fellow: Maximum 28 years.
- Age Relaxation: 5 years in case of SC/ST candidates and 3 years in case of OBC candidates. Ex-Servicemen, Persons with Disabilities are eligible for age relaxation as per Government of India orders. Valid documentary proof required for age relaxation claims.
How to Apply
Interested and eligible candidates must directly attend the walk-in-interview.
- Documents to bring:
- Typed Biodata in the prescribed format (handwritten biodata will not be accepted). The biodata format is available on the NESAC website: https://nesac.gov.in/category/career/
- All relevant original documents supporting the details furnished in the Biodata.
- One set of self-attested photocopies of the documents.
- Original “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) if currently employed under Central/State Government/Public Sector Undertakings or Autonomous Bodies.
- In case of foreign degree holders where the documents/degree/certificates are not in English, then translation and authorized transcription must be attached and equivalency certificate from Association of Indian University (AIU) must also be scanned and attached. Failure to produce equivalency certificate at the time of interview shall lead to disqualification.
- Candidates will be asked to prove their identity by showing any Govt. issued identity card, such as AADHAR/Passport/etc., before appearing for the interview.
- Candidates intending to apply for more than one post should submit separate Biodata for each post at the time of interview.
- Candidates are required to provide their valid email-id & contact number in the Biodata. In case of invalid e-mail ID & contact number provided by any candidate, NESAC will not be responsible for the non-communication of any information which will be sent through e-mail.
Selection Process
- Selection will be purely based on performance in the interview.
- The qualification prescribed and the benchmark are only the MINIMUM requirement and fulfilling the same does not automatically make a candidate eligible for Interview.
- Candidates must clearly mention with supporting proof, the specialization/ dissertation/ thesis in the relevant field wherever applicable for consideration of their application.
- In case candidate is claiming equivalent specialization, he/she has to obtain certificate from his/her Institute/University stating that the specialization is equivalent to the one asked in the advertisement. Candidates who do not fulfill eligibility condition will not be considered for the interview.
- Only those who possess the required qualification as on the Date of Interview only need to come for interview. Only passed candidates are eligible to appear for the interview. Students awaiting for final result need not appear for the walk-in-interview.
- NESAC reserves the right not to fill up all or any of the positions, if it so decides.
- The Director, NESAC reserves the right to cancel/postpone the interview without any reason thereof. He also reserves the right to terminate the contract/service, even before completion of the tenure/project for which no appeal thereof can be made.
- Canvassing in any form will result in disqualification.

Other Information
- No TA/DA shall be paid for attending the interview.
- Please note that if required, you may have to stay for interview beyond office hours or for the next day also, at your own expenses. Candidates are advised to make their own arrangements for their stay at their cost, if required, for interview.
- It may be noted that Corrigendum/Addendum, if any, related to any modifications to the essential qualification requirements, No. of Post, etc. will be notified in NESAC website only.
