The Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) has issued an advertisement 1(No. 04/2025, dated July 1, 2025) inviting applications from Indian Nationals for the contractual position of Heritage Advisor.

- Consolidated Remuneration: Rs. 1,80,000/- per month, plus a Transport Allowance of Rs. 35,000/- per month
- Contract Period: Initially for 1 year, extendable up to 5 years based on task review and performance. The engagement is purely contractual and does not lead to regularization or permanency.
Eligibility Criteria (as of July 1, 2025):
- Educational Qualifications: Master’s degree or higher in Museum Studies, Museology, Heritage Management, Archaeology, History, Anthropology, or a related field from a UGC-recognized Indian University or recognized Indian/International Institute.
- Experience and Skills: Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the heritage sector, focusing on museums, cultural heritage preservation, conservation, or related fields. Expertise in heritage conservation principles, museum best practices, institutional archives, cultural heritage management, and strong knowledge of relevant regulations are required. Proven experience in project management, strategic planning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and excellent communication and leadership skills are also essential.
- Age Limit: Up to 70 years, relaxable in deserving cases.
- Crucial Date for Eligibility: July 1, 2025. Experience will be reckoned only after acquiring essential qualifications.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The Heritage Advisor will provide expert guidance and leadership in the conservation, management, and interpretation of MbPA’s cultural heritage resources. Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating with government authorities, organizations, and NGOs for heritage conservation projects and obtaining necessary approvals.
- Leading heritage management initiatives.
- Developing and implementing strategic plans, policies, and programs for cultural heritage, aligning with international standards.
- Recruiting and training a team, developing SOPs and budget proposals for the Heritage Team.
- Leading international collaborations and developing advisory panels.
- Managing procurement of goods/appointment of consultants for heritage projects.
- Developing and implementing social media and communication strategies for heritage initiatives.
- Conducting heritage assessments, surveys, and inventories.
- Leading conservation and interpretation projects for archived documents, heritage sites, monuments, artifacts, and collections.
- Developing the Mumbai Port Experience Centre.
- Monitoring program effectiveness, conducting research, and representing the organization at events. The advisor will report to the Chairperson/Dy. Chairperson and collaborate with various MbPA departments.
Application Process:
- Candidates must download the application form from www.mumbaiport.gov.in under the ‘People & Career/ Jobs/ Advertisements’ menu.
- The filled application form, along with self-attested copies of supporting documents (age, qualification, etc.), must be sent to “The Manager (HR), Mumbai Port Authority, General Administration Department, Port House, 2nd Floor, Shoorji Vallabhdas Marg, Ballard Estate, Mumbai – 400001”.
- The envelope must be superscribed as “Application for engagement of Heritage Advisor on contract basis”.
- Last Date for Receipt of Applications: July 31, 2025.
- Incomplete applications or mere submission of CVs/resumes will be rejected.
- Candidates serving in Government/Semi-Government/PSUs/Autonomous Bodies must submit a “No Objection Certificate” at the time of application. Selected candidates need to submit a discharge/relieving letter at the time of joining.
Other Terms and Conditions:
The Mumbai Port Authority reserves the right to restrict candidates for written examination/interview, cancel vacancies, or make changes to terms and conditions without prior notice.
Medical facilities will be provided at MbPA hospital/dispensary to the contractual personnel, but not to their family/dependents.
Leave entitlement is 20 days Casual Leave per year and Public Holidays; no other leave is admissible, and unconsumed leave cannot be carried forward or encashed.
Duty hours are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, subject to change by Administration, with a weekly off on Sunday (which may be changed with prior intimation).
Accommodation in MbPA quarters may be provided subject to availability, with rent @10% of consolidated remuneration plus license fee, along with actual electricity and water charges.
The contract can be terminated with one month’s written notice from either side.
Engagement is subject to medical fitness and police verification of antecedents.
No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the written examination/interview.
