Bhopal, September 8, 2025 — The Madhya Pradesh government has launched a new phase of the Patrakar Swasthya Avam Durghatna Samuh Bima Yojana (Journalist Health and Accident Group Insurance Scheme), a comprehensive program designed to provide vital financial security to the state’s media professionals and their families. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to the welfare of journalists, recognizing their essential role as the fourth pillar of democracy.

Extensive Coverage for Journalists and Their Families

The enhanced scheme offers a robust safety net, providing both health and accident insurance coverage. The program is tailored to meet the needs of journalists, whether they are accredited or non-accredited, ensuring a wide range of beneficiaries.

    Key Benefits of the Scheme

    • Health Insurance: The plan provides substantial health insurance coverage, offering a choice of plans up to ₹4 lakh. This coverage is crucial for managing medical expenses and ensuring access to quality healthcare.
    • Accident Insurance: In addition to health coverage, the scheme includes a personal accident insurance component of up to ₹10 lakh. This provides a critical financial cushion in the event of an unfortunate accident.
    • Family Inclusion: The policy can be extended to cover the journalist’s spouse, children (up to two unmarried children under 25), and dependent parents, making it a truly comprehensive family welfare program. This provision ensures that entire families are protected under the scheme.

Government Steps Up to Ease Financial Burden

A significant highlight of this year’s scheme is the government’s decision to bear a substantial portion of the premium. This move directly addresses the financial burden on journalists, making the insurance highly accessible. The government will pay a generous portion of the premium for accredited and non-accredited journalists.

Furthermore, in a special provision for veteran journalists, the state government has announced that it will bear the entire premium cost for journalists aged 65 and above, including their spouses. This ensures that senior members of the media fraternity can continue to receive healthcare without any financial worry.

How to Apply and Find More Information

The application process is designed to be straightforward, with online applications now open. Journalists can apply and pay their share of the premium through a designated online portal. For cashless treatment, insured journalists will be provided with an e-card, which will be sent to their registered email address. This e-card, along with their Aadhaar card, will facilitate seamless access to treatment at empaneled hospitals.

For a detailed overview of the scheme, including premium tables and application forms, journalists are encouraged to visit the official website of the Department of Public Relations, Madhya Pradesh.
