About Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS)

The Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) is a tertiary care, super-specialty hospital located in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, India.

It was established in 2009 by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi as an autonomous institute under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

The ILBS is a mono-superspeciality hospital, which means that it provides primarily liver and biliary care. This focus on a single organ system allows the institute to achieve a high degree of expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of liver and biliary diseases

The Institute was constructed and operationalised in two phases:
  • Phase I: The first phase of the ILBS was built by the Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi and was completed in 2010. It was initially designed to have a total of 180 beds, including 74 intensive care unit beds. The phase I facilities include an emergency department, operation theaters, a blood bank, a pathology laboratory, and a radiology department.
  • Phase II: The second phase of the ILBS was constructed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and became operational in 2016. It has a envisaged capacity of more than 300 beds, including 100 ICU beds. The phase -II facilities include a dedicated research complex, an auditorium, a guest house, a hepato-biliary oncology unit, and additional residential accommodation for doctors and nurses.
