Eastern Railway Announces Sports Quota Recruitment for 2025-26
The Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) Eastern Railway, has issued a notification for the recruitment of eligible sportspersons for the year 2025-26. A total of 50 posts are open across various pay levels, inviting online applications from talented individuals who have excelled in their respective sports. The recruitment drive, advertised as an Open Advertisement, aims to fill positions in Group ‘C’ and Erstwhile Group ‘D’ categories.
Vacancy Details and Pay Levels
The 50 available posts are distributed across three primary categories:
- Group ‘C’ Level-4/Level-5: A total of 5 posts are available in this category.
- Group ‘C’ Level-2/Level-3: This category has 12 posts.
- Erstwhile Group ‘D’ Level-1: The largest number of vacancies are in this category with 33 posts.
The notification provides a detailed breakdown of vacancies for different sports within each category and their distribution across various Eastern Railway divisions and workshops.
Eligibility and Age Criteria
To be eligible for these positions, candidates must be Indian nationals and meet specific age and educational qualifications as well as sports achievements.
- Age Limit: Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 25 years old as of January 1, 2026. No age relaxation is applicable for any category.
- Educational Qualifications:
- Level-4/5: The minimum educational qualification required is graduation.
- Level-2/3: Candidates must be 12th pass or hold an equivalent qualification.
- Level-1: The minimum qualification is 10th pass, ITI passed, or NAC (National Apprenticeship Certificate).
- Sports Achievements:
- Level-4/5: Candidates must have represented the country in the Olympic Games, World Cup, World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, or Youth Olympics and secured at least a 3rd position.
- Other Levels: Specific minimum sports norms are listed for various sports, including Cricket, Athletics, Hockey, Volleyball, Kabaddi, and Badminton, as well as those based on All India Rankings. All recognized sports achievements must have been attained in the current and/or immediate previous two financial years (on or after April 1, 2023).
Selection Process
The recruitment process is based on a comprehensive assessment that includes a field trial and an evaluation of sports achievements and educational qualifications.
- Mark Distribution:
- 50 Marks: Sports achievements.
- 40 Marks: Game skill, physical fitness, and coach’s observations during the trial.
- 10 Marks: Educational qualification.
- Minimum Qualifying Marks:
- Level-4 & Level-5: 70 marks.
- Level-2 & Level-3: 65 marks.
- Level-1: 60 marks.
In the event of a tie in marks, preference will be given to the younger candidate. The list of recognized Junior National Championships is also provided in the notification.

- Closing Date: October 9, 2025, at 18:00 hrs.
- Application Fees:
- ₹500: For most candidates.
- ₹250: For candidates from SC, ST, women, minorities, and Economically Backward Classes. This fee is subject to a partial or full refund upon appearing for the Field Trial.
Candidates are required to upload a photograph, signature, LTI (Left Thumb Impression), and various identity, education, age, sports achievement, and community certificates during the application process.
