Salary
The pay scale for the Principal post is Pay Level 13A1, with an entry-level salary of Rs. 1,31,400/- and a special allowance of Rs. 4,500/- per month.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification and Experience
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- Option 1: A Ph.D. with a First Class at either the Bachelor’s or Master’s level in the relevant engineering/technology discipline. Additionally, candidates must have a minimum of 16 years of experience in teaching, research, or industry, with at least 3 years of post-Ph.D. experience and 5 years of experience not below the level of Head of Department (HoD). The experience of 5 years at the HoD level or above should be in a pay scale of Level-13A1. The remaining 11 years of experience in teaching/research/industry should be at a pay level from 9A to 12.
- Option 2: A First Class at either the Bachelor’s or Master’s level in the relevant engineering/technology discipline. In this case, candidates need a minimum of 20 years of experience in teaching, research, or industry, with at least 5 years of experience not below the level of Head of Department (HoD). The experience of 5 years at the HoD level or above should be in a pay scale of Level-13A1. The remaining 15 years of experience in teaching/research/industry should be at a pay level from 9A to 12.
Note: Degrees obtained through Distance Mode/Open University for Engineering/Technology subjects will not be considered valid.
Age Limit
As of August 1, 2025, the minimum age for candidates is 37 years, and there is no maximum age limit. The retirement age is set at 65 years.
Reservation
- Candidates claiming reservation benefits must be permanent residents of Bihar. Applicants from outside Bihar are not eligible for reservation benefits.
- Married women claiming reservation must have their caste/permanent residence/non-creamy layer certificates issued in the name of their father, not their husband.
How to Apply
- One Time Registration (OTR): Candidates must first complete a One Time Registration on the BPSC website, https://bpsconline.bihar.gov.in. An OTR is mandatory for applying to various BPSC examinations and is not an application for a specific exam. A valid, active email ID and mobile number are required for OTR.
- Digilocker Account: After completing the OTR process, the Digilocker’s Meri Pehchan Portal will open. Candidates with an existing Digilocker account can sign in and link their documents. Those without an account can create a new one.
- Profile Creation: The application process involves six steps for profile creation: Personal Information, Address Information, Other Information, Qualification Information, Experience Information, and Upload Photo/Signature and Profile Lock.
- New Application: After the profile is locked, candidates can navigate to the ‘New Application’ tab to see all active advertisements. They can then submit their application and pay the fees.
- Application Fee:
- General candidates: Rs. 100/-
- SC/ST candidates of Bihar: Rs. 25/-
- Female candidates who are permanent residents of Bihar (all categories): Rs. 25/-
- Candidates with disabilities (40% or more): Rs. 25/-
- Final Submission: After submitting the online application, candidates must download and print two copies of the filled application form from the ‘My Account’ tab. They should ensure that each page of the hard copy has the Application Number, Application ID, and Bar Code.
Selection Process
The selection of candidates will be based on a weighted scheme with a total of 100 points:
- Academic Background (Weightage – 20): This includes marks from M.Tech/M.E/M.S (up to 10 points), B.Tech/B.E/B.S/B.Sc (Engg) (up to 5 points), and a Ph.D. (5 points).
- Evaluation of Academic Performance, Research Performance, Domain Knowledge, and Teaching Skills (Weightage – 60): This section includes points for research/book publications (up to 20 points), seminar presentations (up to 10 points), sponsored research projects (up to 20 points), and refresher courses, workshops, and faculty development programs (up to 10 points).
- Interview (Weightage – 20): The interview performance will have a weightage of 20 points.
The number of candidates invited for the interview will be five times the number of vacancies.
