    Intelligence Bureau: Security Assistant/Executive Recruitment 2025

    Overview

    The Intelligence Bureau (Ministry of Home Affairs), Government of India, is inviting online applications from Indian nationals for direct recruitment to the post of Security Assistant/Executive (SA/Exe). This recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 4987 vacancies across various Subsidiary Intelligence Bureaux (SIBs). The selection process will be merit-based, with vacancies allocated to the SIB to which selected candidates belong.

    • Total Vacancies: 4987. Vacancies are provisional and subject to change.

      • Ex-Servicemen (ESM): Vacancies reserved for ESM will be allocated on a centralized basis, allowing ESM from all SIBs to compete. If suitable ESM candidates are not available, these vacancies will be filled by non-ESM candidates of the respective categories.
    • Service Liability: The post involves All India Transfer liability, meaning candidates must be willing to serve anywhere in India.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Nationality: Indian National
    • Essential Qualifications (as on 17.08.2025):
      • Matriculation (10th class pass) or equivalent from a recognized Board of Education.
      • Possession of domicile certificate of the State against which the candidate has applied.
      • Knowledge of any one of the language/dialect mentioned in the table against each SIB. Candidates should be able to read, write, and speak in that language/dialect.
    • Desirable Qualifications: Field experience in Intelligence work.
    • Age Limit (as on 17.08.2025): 18-27 years.
      • Age Relaxation:
        • SC/ST candidates: 5 years.
        • OBC candidates: 3 years.
        • Departmental candidates (Central Govt. Civilian employees with 3 years regular and continuous service): Up to 40 years.
        • Widows, divorced women, and women judicially separated (not remarried): Up to 35 years for UR, 38 years for OBC, and 40 years for SC/ST.
        • Ex-Servicemen: As per Government instructions.
        • Meritorious Sportspersons: Up to 5 years (specific certificate required).
    • PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities): The post is not identified as suitable for any category of PwBDs, and they should not apply.

    Scheme of Examination

    The selection process comprises three tiers:

    Tier-I: Online Objective Type Exam

    • Description: Online exam of Objective type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), divided into 5 parts, each containing 20 questions of 1 mark.
    • Subjects:
      • General Awareness
      • Quantitative Aptitude
      • Numerical/Analytical/Logical ability and Reasoning
      • English Language
      • General Studies
    • Total Marks: 100
    • Time: 1 hour
    • Negative Marking: 1/4 mark for each wrong answer. No marks for un-attempted questions.
    • Cut-off Marks (out of 100) for Tier-I:
      • UR: 30
      • OBC: 28
      • SC/ST: 25
      • EWS: 30
      • All Ex-servicemen will be treated in their own category (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS).
      • Actual cut-off marks may be higher depending on candidate scores and vacancies.

    Tier-II: Written Descriptive Type Exam

    • Description: Translation of a passage of 500 words from the opted language/dialect to English and vice versa.
    • Total Marks: 50
    • Time: 1 hour
    • Qualifying Nature: This tier is qualifying in nature.
    • Qualifying Marks: 20 out of 50.

    Tier-III: Interview/Personality Test

    • Total Marks: 50

    Selection Process

    1. Tier-I Examination: Candidates must appear at one of the five chosen examination centers. Marks from Tier-I will be normalized.
    2. Shortlisting for Tier-II: Qualified candidates from Tier-I (scoring minimum cut-off) will be shortlisted @ 10 times the number of vacancies.
    3. Shortlisting for Tier-III/Interview: Candidates who secure minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II (20 out of 50) and based on their normalized Tier-I marks, will be shortlisted for Tier-III/Interview @ 5 times the number of vacancies.
    4. Final Merit List: A final merit list for SA/Exe will be prepared based on the combined performance in Tier-I and Tier-III exams. A waiting list will also be prepared.
    5. Final Appointment: Subject to successful completion of Character & Antecedent verification, and Medical Examination.
    6. Temporary Appointment: Initial appointment will be temporary, with permanent appointment dependent on prevailing factors.

    Resolution of Tie Cases

    In case of a tie in combined scores of Tier-I and Tier-III, the following criteria will be applied sequentially:

    1. Marks in Tier-I
    2. Marks in Tier-III
    3. Date of birth (older candidate placed higher)
    4. Alphabetical order of names (starting with first name)

    Important Dates

    • Opening Date for Online Registration: 26.07.2025
    • Closing Date for Online Application Submission and Fee Payment: 17.08.2025 (till 23:59 Hrs)
    • Last Date for Offline Fee Submission through SBI Challan: 19.08.2025 (Banking Hours)
      • The e-challan generated after online application submission is valid for 4 days from the date of generation. Candidates must ensure offline submission before 19.08.2025.

    How to Apply

    1. Mode of Application: Applications must be submitted ONLY through online registration via MHA’s website or NCS portal. No other mode of application will be accepted.2 3
    2. Registration Dates: Registration is accepted only between 26.07.2025 and 17.08.2025.
    3. Preparation before Application: Before starting the online application, ensure you have the following ready:
      • Valid email ID and mobile number (to be kept active throughout the recruitment process).
      • Scanned recent passport size color photograph (100-200KB, JPG/JPEG format, not older than 12 weeks). The same photograph must be used throughout the process.
      • Scanned signature (80-150KB, JPG/JPEG format, black ink on white paper, only signature area scanned).
      • Valid photo ID proof issued by Central/State Govt.
      • Certificate/Marksheet for Class X (Matriculation).
      • Certificate(s)/Marksheet(s) for Class XII, Diploma, or Graduation, if acquired.
    4. Application Steps:
      • Step-I: Registration of Personal & Contact details. A login ID (Application Sequence Number) and password will be sent to your registered email ID.
      • Step-II: Completion of Application Form. Re-login using the received credentials. Select the category, fill in personal and qualification details, upload photo and signature, and submit examination fees (if applicable) and Recruitment Processing Charges.
    5. Important Considerations:
      • Carefully select the SIB/City of Examination. Once opted, it will NOT be changed. Candidates can choose five examination centers for Tier-I.
      • Only one application should be submitted; multiple applications may lead to cancellation.
      • Preview the application before submission to ensure all information, photograph, and signature are correct and clearly visible.
      • Application once submitted cannot be withdrawn, and fees are non-refundable.
      • Keep a printout of the application form after successful submission for future reference.
      • Check your email (inbox and spam folder) and the MHA website regularly for updates.
      • Hard copies of application forms are NOT required to be submitted.

    Examination Fee

    The fee consists of two components:

    • Examination Fee: ₹100/-
    • Recruitment Processing Charges: ₹550/-

    Fee Structure by Category:

    • All candidates: Must pay Recruitment Processing Charges @ ₹550/-.
    • Male candidates of UR, EWS, and OBC categories: Must pay Examination Fee (₹100/-) in addition to Recruitment Processing Charges (₹550/-), totaling ₹650/-.
    • SC/ST candidates, female candidates, and eligible Ex-Servicemen: Exempted from paying the Examination Fee (₹100/-) but must pay the Recruitment Processing Charges (₹550/-).
    • Ex-Servicemen who have already secured employment in civil side under Central Govt in Group ‘C’ posts on a regular basis after availing reservation benefits: Required to pay both the Examination Fee (₹100/-) and Recruitment Processing Charges (₹550/-).
    • Banking charges: If applicable, will be borne by the candidate.

    Mode of Payment:

    • Online: Via SBI EPAY LITE through Debit Cards (RuPay/Visa/MasterCard/Maestro), Credit Cards, Internet Banking, UPI.
    • Offline: Through SBI challan.
    • Important: Do not press “Back” or “Refresh” after submitting online payment to avoid double charges.
    • Online payments are accepted only until the last date of online application submission.
    • Payments through SBI challan generated on the last day of online application closure can be submitted in the bank until 19.08.2025 (during banking hours only).

    Examination Centres

    Candidates must indicate five (5) choices for examination centers for the online/Tier-I exam. The list of centers includes major cities across India.

    • Note: The IB reserves the right to cancel or add examination centers and allot candidates to a different center based on administrative feasibility.
    • Tier-II and Tier-III/Interview dates, times, and centers will be intimated via email to successful candidates. These may not be conducted at all listed cities/centers and may be clubbed.

    General Instructions

    • The crucial date for determining age limit, educational qualifications, and certificates/testimonials is the closing date for receipt of applications, i.e., 17.08.2025.
    • Caste certificates will be accepted as per government instructions.
    • Date of birth and name will be taken from the matriculation certificate only.
    • Certificates supporting qualifications must be obtained on or before the closing date.
    • Candidates must ensure eligibility in terms of age, educational qualification, category, and language knowledge before applying. Providing incorrect information may lead to termination of service.
    • Admission at any stage of the examination is provisional, subject to satisfying eligibility conditions. False information or fake documents will lead to cancellation of candidature.
    • Candidates must carry sufficient passport-size colored photographs (identical to the one uploaded) and original identity proof to the examination center.
    • Signatures uploaded must be visible and consistent with those appended on admit cards and attendance sheets.
